The Problem
Hard scale formation in their 1 x 30 TR + 3 x 40 TR A. C. Plant Chilling water circuit resulted into less cooling, reduced efficiency and increased energy costs.
The Circuit
The cooling water and boiler water is taken from a borewell and has the following analysis:
pH 7.8
Total dissolved Solids 810 ppm
Total Hardness . 406 ppm
Calcium Hardness . 270 ppm
Total Alkalinity 410 ppm
Chlorides 460 ppm
Sulphates 102 ppm
Hard water scales were deposited on the condensor tubes which was removed periodically which not only led to increased downtime but also resulted in damage to the condensor tubes leading to leakages.
The Solution
In order to prevent the formation of hard water scale deposition on condensor tubes COLLOID-A-TRONs of' sizes CAT 5" and CAT 1/2" were installed on 4.1.93 and 5.2.93 respectively.
Performance
Subsequent inspection confirmed that the COLLOI D-A- TRON effectively was preventing the deposition of hard water scale. Similarly the condensor tubes have been found to be free of scale since the installation of COLLOID-A- TRON and no descaling operations have been necessary till date.
Note:
It may be noted that we have successfully installed 3 COLLOID-A-TRONs (Sizes 2 x 1" and 1 x 1/2") in their chilling water circuit which is required to cool the core of their paint drums. Earlier they were descaling the core every 3 weeks which they now descale annually. This has a definite increase in their production time and the party is satisfied.
