THE CUSTOMER

M/s Soundaraja Mills is a composite textile Mill of the National Textile Corporation in Tamil Nadu.

THE PROBLEM

The hard water scale choked the Pipes, Nozzles and Water Eliminator Plates of the Humidifiers and reduced not only the flow of air but also the relative humidity thereby leading to reduction of production apart from increased downtime due to frequent cleaning of the humidifiers.

THE SOLUTION

Colloid-a-Tron Non chemical Scale Prevention Systems were installed in the Humidifiers and comparative readings were taken for system with and without the scale preventors.

THE SAVINGS

Colloid-A-Trons of size CAT 4” were installed on the humidifiers and the Air Velocity was measured at 70 points across the delivery of the humidifiers. These readings were compared with the readings of humidifiers without Colloid-A-Tron and the following advantages were noted:

Increase in Air Velocity

It was observed that in the unit without the Colloid-A-Tron the Air Velocity ranged from 1.6 to 2.2 m/sec. With an average of 1.9 m/sec. However, in the Unit with the Colloid-A-Tron the Air Velocity ranged from 2.4 to 3.7 m/sec. with an average of 3.3 m/sec. I.e. the Air Velocity increased by 74%.

Increase in Output of the Humidifier

The area of the discharge being 190 sq. ft, the output of the plant without the Colloid-a-Tron was 71,044 cfm, whereas the discharge of the Unit with the Colloid-A-Tron was 1,23,386 cfm, which is 74% higher output.

Reduced Energy Cost per Output

The Unit without the Colloid-A-Tron gave an output of 1,771.7 cfm per KWH, whereas the unit with the Colloid-A-Tron gave an outpurt of 3,755.7 cfm/KWH, and hence saved 372 KWH per day

Pay Back period for COLLOID-A-TRON installed

Based on the energy savings due to the installation of Colloid-A-Tron in the circuit, the pay back period of the cost of the equipment was 215 days (on a 10hr/day working) or less than 8 months.

2. Savings due to reduced downtime of plant for Chemical cleaning Rs. 1.82 lacs.

3. Savings in cleaning costs Rs. 0.27 lacs.

4. Savings due to increased production due to efficient running of Humidifier.
